We have just started Order of Operations. BEDMAS is the easy way to remember this. Inside the brackets first, exponents (not for Grade 6! Don’t have to do that step this year), division, multiplication, addition and lastly subtraction.
Students are encouraged to ask me for extra help and questions if they don’t understand or if they just want extra work because they love math!
Examples: (please note the / is the divided sign)
6 + 5 x 3
6 + 15 = 21
40 – 60 / 5 =
40 – 15 = 25
(6 x 4) / 3 + 12
24 / 3 + 12
8 + 12 = 20
Some extra work:
(5 -2) x 12 =
6 – 12 / 4 =
13 + 2 x 4
4 x 14 / 7 =
5 x (30/6) + 4 =
22 / (5 x 2 + 1) =
Good luck!

WOW!!
Suddenly it’s mid-November and the forcast is for snow!! One of the many reasons I choose to live on the North Shore!
It was really great to have everyone back in the class and healthy! We certainly have had our share of sickness in the class.
With Wednesday being a holiday, it made for a strange week. I missed my whole day with the class! And yes! I really did miss you
We are in the midst of finishing off one reporting period and starting term two. Due to the number of students away due to illness, I’ve been quite patient with projects and work being handed in late. As I’m still waiting and we need to start the next term, Interim reports will be given Friday, November 12th for Reading and French.
Reminder that we are going to Young Peoples on Wednesday. For the four or five of you that haven’t returned the form – please have your parents contact me.
Happy Friday!
